What’s the Deal with Kush?

All too often, people get overwhelmed because there are so many varieties of Cannabis to choose from. Kush is one of the more popular varieties that originates from the Hindu-Kush Mountains. Today, these mountains are situated in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Over the last 50 years, breeders and cultivators have been refining Kush and hybridizing the vintage Kush genetics, making it nearly impossible to know exactly how many different “Kush” strains are available. It seems as if here are new strains being added all the time! To find out which Kush strains are best-suited for you, download our app available in the Apple Store and Google Play. Here are 3 of our favorite Kush strains – try them and leave a review!

Christmas Tree

Upon the comedown, you’ll fall into a deep and peaceful almost immediately that lasts for hours on end.

Choosing Cannabis for Pain Relief

Cannabis for Pain

Cannabis is a natural choice for patients looking to relieve several ailments and treat serious diagnoses, but it is most commonly used for pain relief. The goal when taking anything for pain is for the patient to experience increased quality of life. This can mean many things to many people, but to us it means functioning normally with minimal pain and limited side effects. The fastest and most efficient way to initiate pain relief with Cannabis is to inhale it because it is absorbed by the body faster than taking oral medication.

If you are currently taking pain pills for pain relief, we do not advise that you stop your prescription and start using Cannabis. Rather, we advise that you speak to your physician about how you may be able to supplement some of the pain medication with Cannabis. Doing this will allow you to slowly wean yourself off the pain medication while simultaneously treating the negative side effects that accompany cutting back on the pills. It can relieve nausea, dizziness, and provide the patient with a relaxing, uplifting experience.

What’s the Deal with Cannabis Butter?

Cannabis butter and Cannabis oil, or Cannabutter and Canna Oil, can be used in food preparation to produce edibles of all kinds. It is a great alternative for patients/recreational users who do not wish to smoke the flower, but still want to take advantage of the medicinal effects the plant provides. In fact, some strains with high THC levels have shown increased anesthetic properties after heating and being absorbed into the butter/oil.

When making butter/oil at home, you will need to decarboxylate (aka decarb) the cannabis you plan on using, first. This can be done several ways, so be sure to do your research to ensure you are doing it correctly. The process essentially converts the THC-A in the cannabis to THC, resulting in edibles that are more potent and kick in quicker. Decarbing the Cannabis also makes the end product safer and more effective, as it lowers the potential of botulism bacteria growing in the butter/oil.

Here is an easy recipe to follow once your Cannabis has been decarbed:

1 cup of water
½ cup of butter or oil
*¼ oz. cannabis, finely chopped & decarbed
*For best results, do not use spread/oil substitutes

  • Bring water to a boil in a medium saucepan
  • Put butter/oil into a glass bowl that will loosely fit the top of saucepan
  • Once butter is melted, add the Cannabis and simmer on low heat for 3-4 hours, stirring often (this will ensure that all of the psychoactive properties of THC are absorbed into butter/oil)
  • Strain the butter/oil into a glass dish that has a tight fitting lid; refrigerate immediately/keep refrigerated
  • Start making your favorite edibles!

Making Cannabutter is a fun experience and a great alternative for Cannabis users who do not wish to smoke the flower. Just be aware of the dosages, as the THC level will vary from dish to dish. You should also avoid using seeds and stems in the Cannabis you use for this recipe because you may experience headaches from the end product, which would be pretty counter-productive, right?
