Firstly, in case you’re not familiar with exactly what CBD is, let’s start with that. Cannabidiol (CBD) is a compound found in hemp. It typically doesn’t contain any tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the compound that gets you high and causes psychoactive effects in humans.
Scientists know that cannabinoids interact with endocannabinoid receptors in the central and peripheral nervous system, helping to maintain balance in the body and keep it in a normal, healthy state.

Next, owners who give CBD to their dogs have reported that it helps with pain management, particularly neuropathic pain, seizure control, reducing anxiety, and appetite stimulation – many of the same benefits that humans use CBD for.
What to Consider About CBD for Pets
Subsequently, while there aren’t many side effects, it’s important to note that there are a few that have been reported. CBD can cause dry mouth, leading to an increased water intake. It may also lead to drowsiness or lowered blood pressure, particularly with higher doses.
It’s extremely important to start off small when starting a CBD regimen for your pet. Since studies have not yet been done of these effects, it is unknown what size dose can be toxic for animals, and this is dependent on the animal’s weight and size.

Lastly, when giving CBD to your dogs, we highly recommend using the best quality organic product that you can find. Some pesticides and other chemicals are toxic, so it’s best to avoid them as best as you can. This does mean that the cost of the CBD might be high, but your best friend’s health is certainly worth the price!
